Song: Blackaby – I Wanted review

by Bilge Nur Yilmaz

There’s a humble front to Blackaby’s desperate pleas, and the playful rapture of his new single, I Wanted,  charmingly proves so – on his second release (also out via Hand In Hive) since May’s EP, Everything’s Delicious

Cocooned in theme with the earlier single, She’ll Make Some Time On A Monday, the track sifts through your iPhone notes (and kept receipts) – sewing together subconscious fragments to craft its delicate lyricism. The doubled vocal harmony is laid out above a simple guitar beat that salutes the candid folk of Daniel Johnston, and draws on the whimsical generosity of early The Kinks.

Blackaby’s stories rip through the soft melancholic mundanity of walking the dog or brushing your teeth. It’s obviously a yes from us! And if you’re in for a warm evening of brilliant observations, go catch him on tour this month.
