Well it’s certainly been a busy week – as Kevin Morby, Secret Meeting favourites Big Thief, Tonica, Damien Jurado, Charlotte Gainsbourg, La Femme, Anna Burch, Brooklyn’s Swimming Bell and former Midlake frontman E.B. Younger all drop new music!
Unless you’ve been under a rock, you’ll know Kevin Morby announced his fifth solo record, Oh My God, this week. The double album is out April 26 via Dead Oceans and we have lead single No Halo to tease us on what’s to come.
With his debut solo album, To Each His Own, due for release next Friday, E.B. The Younger (aka Eric Pulido from Midlake) has shared a playful video for his single When the Time Comes. The video, directed by actor Jason Lee and Exploredinary, reenacts an episode of ‘Playboy After Dark’ that inspired Pulido while on a hunt for live Harry Nilsson footage.
Manchester alt-electronic duo, Tonica, avoid the cliches usually associated with the city’s usual musical exports – instead encompassing a contemporary, hook-laden sound that carries a dark underbelly. This week they dropped their fourth single, This Is The Last Time – available now on all streaming services.
Fresh off the back of his new record announcement, Damien Jurado has shared another diamond from In the Shape of a Storm. This week he’s offered up the opening tune, unearthing a two decade-old track, Lincoln.
LA FEMME’s L’Hawaïenne is the first track – an eight-minute exotica trip – is taken from a thematic EP dedicated to Polynesian music, which is due to be released later this year.
Adrienne Lenker, Buck Meek and their gang of big thieves are back with third record, U.F.O.F – the band’s first release on new label 4AD. The title track was out earlier this week – wrap your ears around it above.
Following last year’s Quit The Curse LP, Anna Burch is back with a one off single – St Adalbert – out now on Heavenly Records.
Swimming Bell is the solo project of Brooklyn-based folk singer Katie Schottland, who released her well-received first EP The Golden Heart in 2017. This week she’s announced debut full-length Wild Sight, and shared the beautiful 1988.
And the final recommendation for this week is the fabulous Charlotte Gainsbourg with new single Bombs Away, taken from her recent Take 2 EP. She’s also been confirmed as a headline for the upcoming BBC Radio 6 Festival, for those out there ogling tickets.
