New Music Recommendations – 10th May 2019

by Philip Moss

Another week, another load of new tunes. This week’s list is headed up by Mountain Man member, Molly Sarle – and she’s joined by Gia Margaret, Daniel Brouns, Simen Mitlid, JPson and Mattiel.

Following last week’s release of the brilliant Daughter of Swords single, it’s now the turn of fellow Mountain Man member, Molly Sarle. This Close was produced by Sam Evian (who recently worked on the Hannah Cohen album, Welcome Home) and is the second single to be taken from her upcoming record, Karaoke Angel, which will be released through Partisan Records – release date TBC.

As if our appetite wasn’t whet enough for the upcoming vinyl reissue of Gia Margaret’s There’s Always Glimmer, this week she released an acoustic version of Smoke. So set the date in your planner: There’s Always Glimmer is available digitally now, and physically in the UK on 24th May through Orindal Records / Dalliance Recordings.

Safe Now is the debut single from Los Angeles based songwriter, Daniel Brouns. Written about his final conversation with his mum, it’s a deeply affecting track that demands your attention. Safe Now‘s available through Anxiety Blanket Records.

Norwegian act, Simen Mitlid, will definitely appeal to fans of Peter, Bjorn and John, Sufjan Stevens and Patrick Watson. We cannot get enough of this delectable slice of twee pop! Give it a whirl – we hope you love it too!

South African native, JPson’s new single, One Day, is a beautiful piece of folk pop that’s got ‘summer’ written all over it. And if One Day appeals, check out his last single Sick And Tired – available on Spotify.

Mattiel’s last LP, Mattiel, was one that got pretty heavy rotation on our turntables last year. Now, she’s back with her latest single, Keep The Change, which has just been added to the BBC 6 Music playlist, and will feature on her new album, Satis Factory – it’s due out on 14th June through Heavenly Records.
