SOTW: Courtney Marie Andrews – It Must Be Someone Else’s Fault

Single of the week:

by Joseph Purcell

Following the impeccable If I Told, and the sauntering warmth of Burlap String, Phoenix based singer songwriter, Courtney Marie Andrews, continues to display her craft for heartfelt soundbites of emotional struggle on latest single, It Must Be Someone Else’s Fault.

Throughout, Andrews is the guide on an intimate voyage of relationship regret, with a rueful glance to what could have been. She reflects, ‘It’s been years since we talked… How have we grown apart as we did, how did we ever go our separate ways, but it must be someone else fault, must be someone else’s heart that tainted mine, I cannot be to blame for the story of this pain, it must be someone else’s fault?’

Andrew’s refrain is cast to the sound of delicately picked guitar notes, bounding drum lines and a vocal that, as ever, warms the heart. Her subtle melange of country and Americana works with exquisite results. The rolling comfort of the gentle backing, once more exemplifying the talents of a remarkable songwriter.

New album, Old Flowers, will be released via Loose Records in the UK and Fat Possum in the US on 24th July.
