Single of the Week: Lou Price – Figure It Out review

by Philip Moss

The buzz of playing music with your mates can’t be replaced. But, like lots of musicians, the last year or so has meant Lou Price has had to scratch his itch in a different way. The fruits of which are his upcoming debut solo EP, Parkside Grooming.

Following first single, Love Can Pass You By, Price is joined on backing vocals by label mate, Wyldest, on Figure It Out – which has the same blissed out feel as Price’s work on Morningside with his band, Swimming Tapes. But influenced by the Government’s handling of the pandemic, his social observation is a different lens for the London songwriter to adopt. And there’s a reliability – a harder, biting edge underneath his shimmering guitars – ‘stand in the shadows and blame everytime, everyday… you’re kinda freakin’ me out!’ Price may have been stuck inside like the rest of us, but his creative energies were only stoked further – and Figure It Out tees Parkside Grooming up to be one of the most exciting EP releases of the year.

Parkside Grooming is out on 16th July through Hand in Hive.
