Song: Lizzie Reid – Been Thinking About You review

by Dave Bertram

Where previous single, Seamless, was a straight-up folk showcase of storytelling, Lizzie Reid’s next release sees the new kid on the Glaswegian block turn up the intimacy.

Been Thinking About You employs a much deeper, jazz-inspired instrumentation and rhythm to tell her new story of love, loss and longing, pouring out wants and needs that are beautifully emphasised by orchestrated pauses – ‘You are so done, I flew over your fence; So I better run, for I’m quite done making sense.’

And when all is said and done and she’s made her peace, the frustration sparks a (surprising) loud crescendo of heavy drums, big guitars and cries that bring the track to a head – showing she can quite adequately throw the loud in with the intimate.

EP, Cubicle, lands on 10th February on Seven Four Seven Six.
