New Music Recommendations – 30th March 2018

by Philip Moss and Phil Scarisbrick

The Common Cold – The London Look

The London Look is the debut single from The Common Cold – featuring ex-members of John Peel favourite’s Dandelion Adventure, as well as members of Cornershop and Pram.

With a double drummer attack, the single is a hypnotic slab of melodic krautrock that sees Preston’s answer to the late, great Mark E. Smith, Marcus Parnell, ranting over a Neu! inspired backdrop.

Upcoming album, Shut Up! Yo Liberals!, is definitely one to keep your eyes out for, and don’t just take our word for it- Dinosaur Jr’s Lou Barlow is also ‘totally digging the tunes”.

Shut Up! Yo Liberals! will be released through Action Records (The Fall, Boo Radleys, Fi-Lo Radio) on limited vinyl and CD on 4th May.

Ari Roar – Implode

Under the name Ari Roar, Texan artist Caleb Campbell is all set to release his debut album, Calm Down, in May.

Following on from the album’s title track, he has now released Implode. A 1960’s influenced, lo-fi pop song which is getting us even more excited for his first LP.

Recorded in NYC with producer Hunter Davidsohn (Porches/Frankie Cosmos), the 15 track debut record will be released through Bella Union on 25th May, when he will also tour the UK.

Mastersystem – Old Team

Frightened Rabbit/Editors/Minor Victories supergroup, Mastersystem, have unveiled another new track from their forthcoming debut album: Dance Music.

Following on from Notes On A Life Not Quite Lived and The Enlightenment, the fuzzed-up, shoegaze-esque stomp is showing us that there is more to Frightened Rabbit frontman, Scott Hutchison’s writing than we realised. With the new record arriving imminently, the three tracks released so far have certainly peaked our interest.

Dance Music is out on 6th April via Physical Education
