New Music Recommendations – 29th March 2019

by Philip Moss

Interpol’s Marauder was a return to form, and this week they announced a new five track EP – A Fine Mess, which is preceded by the single, The Weekend. And where some collections that follow albums feel like off cuts, this is a fine addition to the New York trio’s canon. A Fine Mess, which was produced by Dave Fridmann (Mercury Rev, Flaming Lips) is out on 17th May through Matador Records.

Made in Preston, but based in Amsterdam – Ajay Saggar’s latest single as King Champion Sound – Clouds of Money – is a fine return, and as Dutch national newspaper, De Volkskrant, put it ‘a musical masterpiece’. And if you’re also interested in Ajay’s other works, check out The Common Cold’s excellent debut, Shut Up! Yo Liberals!. King Champion Sound’s new album, For A Lark, is out now.

Featuring Weyes Blood, Drugdealer’s new single, Honey, might just be the best thing he’s ever released!  And if it floats your boat too, his new LP, Raw Honey, is out on 19th April via Mexican Summer. Drugdealer will also play shows in Manchester and London in May.

I’m A Stranger Now is the first single from The Tallest Man on Earth’s new album, I Love You. It’s A Fever Dream – his first in four years. The LP, which has been self produced, is out 28th June, and there is a full UK tour in November.

Irish singer/songwriter, Lisa Hannigan, has paired up with s t a r g a z e for her upcoming, Live in Dublin, album. Check out Bookends above – the latest single prior to its 31st May release.

Lowly’s latest single, Stephen, was written on the day Stephen Hawking died, and is taken from their sophomore album, Hifalutin, which is out on Bella Union on 12th April.
