New Music Recommendations – 21st June 2019

Solo artists are on the menu this week with new offerings to deliver to you from Bedouine, Julien Baker, County Line Runner, Steve Gunn, Kyle Craft, Angie McMahon and Leif Vollbeck.

Azniv Korkejian aka Bedouine has shared the fourth track, One More Time, to be taken from her upcoming second album Bird Songs of a Killjoy, which which is out this week. Together with the song, she has shared a video for the new track which gives a behind the scenes look at the recording of the strings at Capitol Studios. Julien Baker has shared her version of The Modern Leper, which will feature on the upcoming  Frightened Rabbits’ tribute Tiny Changes – a celebration of The Midnight Organ Fight. Get the tissues ready for this one…

Brighton’s County Line Runner has marked his signing to KIDinaKorner/Republic Records with the latest single from his debut LP – due next year. Saw You In A Dream, which was produced by main man, Adam Day, and Bill Ryder Jones – at his studio on the Wirral – is out now across all streaming services. Full UK dates for the BBC 6 Music recommended artist have also been announced this week for October.

Bonnie Prince Billy, Bryce Dessner and Eighth Blackbird have shared Beast For Thee – the first cut from their upcoming collaboration, which will see them tackle an array of cuts from Will’s back catalogue. The LP, When We Are Inhuman, will be released on 30th August through 37d03d.

Montreal’s Leif Vollebekk is back with a new record after his Polaris Music Prize shortlisting with Twin Solitude back in 2017. There’s something curiously ballroom about the lead single, Hot Tears – listen above.

Having released one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the year so far in The Unseen In Between, American singer-songwriter Steve Gunn is back with two new tracks – a swaying acoustic waltz in Be Still Moon and the rhythmic Shrunken Heads.

To tie in with the announcement of her debut album, Salt, Angie McMahon has shared her new single, And I am A Woman. Salt will be released on 26th July.

And finally, Sub Pop favourite Kyle Craft has his third solo record out in July and has released the first offering in Deathwish Blue – an ode and present to his fiancée. Aww!
