Dream English Kid – Swim In The Shallow

by Philip Moss

The teasing is over. Swim In The Shallow – the debut single from Preston based gloom-pop act, Dream English Kid – is here.

Taking their name from a video installation piece by fellow northerner, Mark Leckey, the group- according to lead vocalist, Hannah Cobb, exist ‘not just as a band, but as an artistic movement’. An ethos exemplified by their ‘inspired’ decision to record with BLEICH4 (of Macclesfield based band, Grimm Twins) in Stockport.

Combining influences such as Beach House, Tame Impala and Ulrika Spacek, Swim In The Shallow is a dynamic and ethereal introduction to the band and certainly demonstrates Cobb’s mission statement – ‘we want to capture the magic of the north in our sound’.

So jump in. Swim In The Shallow is released today through First Light Records.
